Heat pumps are fantastic at saving energy and reducing carbon emissions. The technology uses air from outside and converts it into useful heat for your home. Because heat pumps don’t use fossil fuels like oil or gas, they are extremely beneficial for the environment. For this reason SEAI have offered a significant grant for heat pump installation as part of the government’s Climate Action Plan.

Air to Water Heat Pumps

The most common heat pump for homes in Ireland is an Air to water heat pump, and for good reason. As it doesn’t use any fossil fuels, a home’s carbon footprint is drastically reduced by an air to water heat pump. A homeowner can also expect their electricity bills to fall quite significantly after installing one.

Benefits of installing a heat pump:

  • You can save up to 30% on your heating costs.
  • They are cheaper to install and maintain than most other heating systems.
  • Homeowners can avail of a government grant.
  • Heat pumps are extremely quiet and will heat our home quickly.
  • They are clean and environmentally friendly.

What kind of homes are suitable for heat pumps?

Heat pumps are only effective in homes that have low heat loss. Essentially this means that they are well insulated already. It’s common for a pump to be installed after a number of other energy measures have been carried out. Windows and doors also play a huge role in ensuring your home is well insulated. In order to apply for a heat pump grant you will need to have an assessment of your home carried out by an SEAI Registered Technical Advisor. This is something House 2 Home experts can provide. Contact the team for a free consultation.

What kind of grant is available?

If your home qualifies for a grant you can expect to receive up to €3500 in funding towards an air to water heat pump. This will depend on your home having adequate heat retention and it must have been built prior to 2006.
