Attic Insulation
A great way to improve your energy rating and reduce heat loss from your home is to insulate your attic. SEAI estimate that up to 30% of rising heat can be lost through your attic. To combat this it is imperative that you optimize this space. 300mm Rockwool is the current standard for attic insulation. This is something that our expert engineers can install in your home very quickly.
House 2 Home also offers spray foam insulation which is a cost effective premium performance rigid thermostat material. One key benefit of the spray foam option is its ability to reach into small areas and fill most voids. We usually recommend this for attic spaces that have been converted into spare rooms.
How often should attic insulation be changed?
Your attic insulation should be changed as often as new standards demand. If you have 100mm Rockwool in your attic currently this will need to be upgraded to 300mm as soon as possible. However if you already have 300mm or you install it, this will last for 10-15 years if it is left undisturbed. Our assessors can provide you with professional advise on what solution is best for you.
Which insulation is best for the attic?
Rockwool 300mm insulation is the current optimum industry standard for attic insulation. If you have hard to reach areas in your attic this can also be supplemented.

How do I know which type of wall insulation is right for my home?
The right type of wall insulation depends on the construction and age of your home. If your home has cavity walls, cavity wall insulation is a cost-effective solution that involves filling the gap between the inner and outer walls. For solid walls, either internal or external insulation may be required. Internal insulation involves fitting insulation boards inside your walls, while external insulation covers the exterior with insulating material. A professional assessment of your home’s walls will help determine the most effective option for your needs
Internal insulation (or Dry Lining) involves attaching extra insulation to the inside of a wall. A thick layer of material is attached to the inside of external walls. This is then finished with plasterboard. Plasterboard wall insulation is very effective and a clean job. You can paint over it and it will add a freshness aesthetically, as well as improving the energy efficiency of your home. This solution is cheaper than external options and if you are redecorating it can be included in the project with a minimum amount of hassle. House 2 Home uses Kingspan Kooltherm K17, which complies with the TGD part L Building Regulations.

The external walls of your home are likely constructed as Cavity Walls. This means that there are two rows of brick or concrete with a hollow space in between them. Cavity wall insulation is a very cost effective and clean method of reducing heat loss. A polystyrene material, in bead form, is injected into the cavity of your walls and sealed with a binding agent. The installation process for this solution is fast and painless, which is one of the reasons why it’s very popular. External wall insulation is the most expensive solution. It involves coating the outer layer of your walls with materials such as polystyrene slabs . This is is then covered and made weather proof with a unique render. External wall insulation is very effective but usually only recommended for big deep retrofit jobs.
